Adecco-update

Sadly for neutrals, the three horse-race for the title of the Adeccoliga is in severe danger of turning into a one horse-race..

Because Odd Grenland once again triumphed, albeit with a surprisingly hard-fought 2-1 win over Alta. Start and Sandefjord on the other hand both dropped points, the former with a 2-2 draw away to Haugesund and the latter with a 0-0 against Sogndal.

In the relegation-battle, Tom Nordlie-powered Kongsvinger beat Sarpsborg Sparta 2-1 to leapfrog Alta in the table while Hødd grabbed only their second win of the season against Sandnes Ulf. 2-1 the scoreline there.

In the clash of the playoff-place rivals Notodden defeated Hønefoss 3-1.

Bryne returned to their usual state of rubbishenss with a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of NIL-Trysil, and lastly Moss finally registered a win as they beat Løv-Ham 3-1.

In the news this week, Start have managed to fight off the threat of imminent bankruptcy. Huzzah! This also means that Erik "Spray tan" Solér is history and a local bank has assumed some sort of ownership of the club.

Also, word is that Jesus-lookalike Erik Mykland could make his long awaited comeback this Saturday, which would surely give Start's rather meagre attendance-figures a bit of a boost and put some much needed cash in the club's coffers. The diminutive dope-fiend will add some much-needed creativity and vision to Start's midfield, but it remains to be seen if he's body is capable of coping with the physical nature of the Adeccoliga...

Start will trot out the old man Sunday and make a few bucks. He's unlikely to have any real impact on the game so the supports will likely lose interest very quickly. Let's hope for the best because Start needs some good news.
Unfortunately we faithful Start supports are finding out just how important Goodson has been all season now that he's not playing. We can not challenge for the top of the table we just want to finish in the top three and play first didivison football next season. It's also obvious without new signs we may be back in the Adecco in 2010.

Lars,

What does Start's financial situation do to their promotion to the Elite Series? Don't their financial have to be certified for them to qualify? Or was this just a short term "cash strapped" situation?

Crazy Al.

I think you're being a bit overly cynical about the whole Myggen-affair, the man never did have much of a physique and there's no reason why his footballing brain and skill should have regressed THAT much in the years he's been out of the game. I really think he can make an impact and I think that with so much riding on Start's promotion there's no way they'd risk playing him if this wasn't the case.

Hey, it was obvious before this season began that Bodø/Glimt were heading back down, but then look what happened. You never know what a squad is capable of until you give it at chance. That said, Borgersen - Mathiesen is barely an Adeccoliga-level parternership, you guys REALLY need to hang on to Goodson and ideally also bring in one more defender (any ideas Al? ;))

I think the solution they came to will be seen by the powers that be as a satisfactory long-term solution to get the club out of this mess. The club built a new stadium at a time when the economy wasn't exactly booming, and then they got relegated. That combination will screw anyone's economy but once they get promotion their cash flow (through TV-money and boosted attendances) will improve and they should be fine.
